June meeting
Margaret Morley chaired the meeting in Heathers absence, and also presented the topic of the night - micromolluscs, ostracods, & pycnogonids.
We learned of the rich variety of these common but invariably overlooked creatures.
Microscopes were available to view specimens, and Margaret also brought in her extensive and meticulous drawings of ostracods.
We were given demonstrations of how to sieve shell sand and pick for shells, and were also given the opportunity to pick out and keep some deep water shells from sunken wood.
Thank you Margaret for an entertaining evening.
Next Meeting - Tuesday 12th July
Epsom Community Centre, 202 Gillies Avenue, Epsom at 7:30pm (doors open at 7pm).
Wilma Blom from the Marine Biology Department at Auckland Museum will be our guest speaker this month.
The subject will be land snails, so please bring in a selection from your collection – big, small, NZ, or WW.
It promises to be another interesting and convivial evening.
