President's Report
With numerous apologies from our regular members we were pleased to have 18 "tourists" visit the Galapagos Islands at our July meeting. One comment was "green with envy". Thank you to all those who brought in shells trays for us to view. One day I hope Bob and Betty Grange might bring in their tray of shells from the Galapagos for us to see.

Thank you to Angela who is now our tea lady! We are really sorry that Chris Horne has resigned the position as Vice President on our committee, but we do hope he is able to continue being a regular member. At this stage we need somebody to take on the role of Vice President. Would you be happy to chair an occasional meeting, introduce the guest speaker, etc? Please let me know if you would be happy to take on this role.

Happy shelling — Heather

August Meeting
Come and hear Steve O’Shea give us an insight into his research on the giant squid. Guaranteed to be a very interesting and educational evening.

Please bring along a selection of interesting New Zealand shells — maybe something a little less common, deep water shells, shells that have been dredged, etc. Or if you have anything from the class Cephalopoda — cuttle fish, squids, octopus, argonauts, ammonites, etc please bring them along to share.

See you there on Tuesday, 8th August at Epsom Community Centre, 202 Gillies Avenue, Epsom. You are welcome to arrive from 7:00pm onwards with the meeting commencing at 7:30pm.

Shell Show 2007
The Wellington Shell Club presents the New Zealand Shell Show 2007

Shell Auction
Due to many contributing factors the Shell Auction that we were planning for September this year has been deferred until 2007 (possibly May).
We really did need more shell lots and this will give us all more time to prepare more lots (and save up some money to spend!)
Let Heather know if you would like to add your name to the list of people planning to have shell lots ready for next year.

Keppel Bay (Yapoon) and Townsville Shell Shows
Heather is back from a wonderful trip to Australia attending both the Keppel Bay and the Townsville Shell Shows. She won a number of prizes including "1st" for Conidae, Cowries, Volutes, Mitridae, Olividae, Colourful Display and 30 Shells of Different Genus at Keppel Bay.
In Townsville she gained "1st" prize in Olividae, Marginella, Pecten Australis, and the "Visitors Choice" Award.
Travelling with Bob and Betty Grange between shows included three nights at Dingo Beach. While shelling on the beach she met Andy Hicky who presented her with a rare Strombus hickeyi! The Australians were very welcoming, and a number of Aussie shellers are planning a trip to New Zealand for our National Show in Wellington.
