Shell Auction: Sat 29th May at the Albany Hall
Plans for the Shell Auction are progressing very well and we look forward to seeing you all at our first big meet of 2004. This will be the only auction in 2004.
Free tables are available for members wishing to sell shells between 10am-12:30pm.
Refreshments: tea and coffee, scones, toasted sandwiches, and sausage rolls will be available at a low price.
All contributors, please have your lots benched between 9am-10am when viewing will commence.
Intending bidders, please register with auction staff prior to 12:45pm as the auction will commence at 1pm sharp.
There is a complete schedule of the lots on offer enclosed with this newsletter and we are pleased that such a great assortment of shells and books etc. are being offered which will interest both the advanced and the new collector.
Admission is free - all welcome.

Poireiria No 30. April 2004 is enclosed.

Next Meeting: Tuesday 11th May 7:30pm.
This will be held in the Ranfurly Room. Epsom Community Centre. 202 Gillies Ave. Please park at the rear of the Centre - entrance is via Kimberly Rd.
The family Turbinidae will be our focus family of shells this evening. Please bring along any examples you have from your collection of New Zealand or World Wide.
For special interest, Peter Poortman will explain how he manages his shell collection: cataloguing, ticketing, storing, etc.
Margaret Morley will give us hints on: cleaning of shells, improving their appearance, and the tools that can assist you to make your shells trophy winners.
Doug Snook who has exhibited in shell shows since 1979 will cover some things that the judges are looking for when points are awarded. He will bring in a display that gained 1st place, plus best world wide exhibit at a recent shell show. There will also be two lucky door prizes to be won.

The 5th New Zealand Shell Show
This will be held in Auckland on 15-17 October 2004. Information and a registration form is available here.

Field trip diary
18 members attended the field trip to Burgess Island, Moko Hinau Islands, on Sunday 18th April and it was a great success.

Bits and pieces
Margaret Morley (Ph. 576 8323) would like your assistance on Saturday May 8th for a public field trip to Howick Beach. Meet at 2:30pm.

To borrow any of the Section's books please contact our Librarian Gladys Goulstone - address 38A Church Rd. Mangere Bridge, Auckland - ph. (09) 634 2823. Please contact Gladys regarding books on the list mailed Sept 2001 - she has extra copies of this.
Gladys will deliver book orders to the meeting. If you send her an A4 P.0. handy bag with $2.95 in stamps per book, she will mail the books. Please return books to Matapuna as soon as possible or to Gladys at the next meeting, or return them by mail.
