September Meeting - A trip around the World with Heather Smith
Our own wonderful Heather Smith has returned and will regale us with stories of her incredible adventures in the USA. The journey begins with a trip to Florida attending the COA (Conchologies of America) Convention, followed by shelling in the Florida Keys and in Naple. A side journey to the Twins Festival in Ohio, site seeing in Oregan and ending with travel on Vancouver Island.
Heather is an entertaining and engaging speaker and never ceases to amaze us with the stories of people she comes across, places she finds, and quality of her photographs.
Guaranteed to be another great night on Tuesday 8 September 2009 at Epsom Community Centre, 202 Gillies Avenue, Epsom where you are welcome to arrive from 7:00 pm on with the meeting commencing at 7:30 pm. As usual, supper shall be supplied.
Poirieria
We are pleased to present the 2009 edition of the Poirieria Journal. Many thanks to those that contributed articles, stories and photos—we couldn’t have done it without you!
Enjoy-

August's Meeting
August's meeting on the names of shell was attended by 16 members and proved to be an incredibly interesting and entertaining evening, with a powerpoint presentation by Martin Walker on the rules/theories behind naming of species accompanied by stories behind "ear shells" that were named after famous ears, Jack Grant-Mackie's entertaining stories of a species named after him (in a not so flattering manner), the DB shell and more, and Margaret Morley's exasperation with shells that have changed name, only to be renamed back to the original ... and so on!
Bon Voyage!
We wish safe travel to Betty Headford and Gladys Goulstone on their trip to Europe, and Patricia Langford who is travelling to Australia. We wish you well and look forward to hearing about your adventures on your return.
Departure
We farewell Graham Bould who has returned to England with his family.
Club Positions Available 2010
Club President
Due to termination of lease Martin Walker now has to relocate (or wind down) his cactus and succulent nursery over the next 16 months and therefore is unable to continue as President as the time pressures will be extreme.
Club Secretary
Unfortunately Jan Munroe is unable to continue in this capacity next year (after four years) and we would love to have someone step into the role for January 2010.
These positions will be voted on at the December AGM.
