President's Report
Martin really blew us away with his presentation about his recent trip to the Philippines. What an amazing experience he shared with us.
Thank you Martin - 20 members and visitors, Irene and Mike, thoroughly appreciated your photos and stories.
Thank you to Peter Poortman and Martin for their research and purchase of the Data Projector which has already proved its worth in viewing Martin’s photos and Peter’s DVD of the giant squid. I’m sure this piece of equipment shall be used often.
Looking forward to seeing your at our next social meeting.
Happy shelling.
Heather
October Meeting
At our next meeting we shall be looking at the family of MARGINELLADAE. It’s not a family we know much about. Margaret Morley will speak about our New Zealand representatives of this species and Heather Smith shall bring along some worldwide members of this species to view.
We shall also spend time viewing the books in the club library - what a great resource we have that we may not be utilising to its full extent!
Doug and Judith Snook will be away, and we will miss their wonderful table of shells to buy - so bring along any shells/shell related items (books, stamps, etc) that you would like to sell, share or swap!
Also bring along any shells that you want to have identified (I’ve got a couple of trays I’ve set up for a shell show in Australia and I’d appreciate people finding any mistakes on them - Heather), your favourite shell family, most unusual find ... entrance fee is some shells to show!
See you there on Tuesday, 9th October 2007 at Epsom Community Centre, 202 Gillies Avenue, Epsom. Please feel free to arrive from 7:00 pm onwards with the monthly meeting commencing at 7:30 pm - a great chance to catch up with fellow club members, lucky door prize (kindly contributed by Margaret Morley and Heather Smith in Doug’s absence!) - come along - guaranteed to be a great social evening!
Club News:
Happy Birthday Doug Snook who turned 70 on the 24th September. Congratulations!
We welcome new member Joan Hetherington.
We are starting to make plans for the proposed Auckland Shell Show in 2009. If you would like to join the committee, please let Heather Smith know. If you would like to contribute an article, note, picture, photograph to the Poirieria Journal please let the Editors, Tony and Jenny Enderby, know. We look forward to hearing from Martin Walker at our November meeting, and a video of footage taken by our own intrepid explorers whilst in Antarctica at our December meeting.
